Safety Division

The Safety Division is responsible for enforcing and promoting worker safety in Arkansas.

This is the largest section within the Arkansas Department of Labor and offers many services and programs to the citizens of Arkansas through the following sections:

AOSH (Arkansas Occupational Safety and Health) - inspects amusement rides and go kart tracks around the state; investigates complaints, accidents and fatalities in the public sector; checks for violations of Arkansas' safety and health laws and regulations; administers the Public Employees' Chemical Right To Know Act and regulations; consults routine consultation and inspection of public schools, colleges, universities, and state agencies; offers training classes on numerous safety issues; assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of safety and health programs.

Media Library - houses videos and slide presentations, pamphlets, safety and health training programs, etc., which can be borrowed free of charge.

State Mine Office - has jurisdiction over restrictions and limits on blasting at quarries and open pit mines; conducts safety training classes and consultation visits to assist employers in meeting the requirements of federal and state mining laws; maintains a media library housing videos and slide presentations which companies can borrow from free of charge.

MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) - provides the required MSHA safety training programs to the mining industry.

OSHA Consultation - assists employees in complying with federal OSHA requirements and reducing injury and illness in the workplace; conducts complete or partial safety and health surveys upon request.

Safety Training and Education - provides training courses to industries, civic groups, public sector employers, employee associations, and unions, in most cases free of charge.
