AR MINORITY HEALTH COMMISSION OFFERS HIV PREVENTION WORKSHOP
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission will host a workshop entitled,
Building Communities for HIV Prevention.The event will take place on
June 16, 2009 at Ramada Plaza in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. The workshop will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Training will be provided as an effort to assist in building capacity for HIV prevention programs. Interested parties may go online to register at

The
deadline to register is June 2, 2009. This workshop is sponsored by the Arkansas Minority Health Commission, Arkansas HIV/AIDS Prevention Coalition, and Arkansas Department of Health.
By 2006, African Americans made up 47.1% of HIV cases and Hispanics demonstrated an increase to 5.3%. Females made up approximately one third (33%) of the HIV cases, which was up from 18.8% during the time period of 1983 to 1998.
Our goal is to strengthen organizations across the state by building their capacity to implement HIV prevention programs. said Patricia Minor, RN Project Manager for HIV/AIDS Outreach Initiative for Arkansas Minority Health Commission.
The Arkansas Minority Health Commission mission is to assure all minority Arkansans access to health care that is equal to the care provided to other citizens of the state and to seek ways to increase awareness, provide education, address, and prevent diseases and conditions that are prevalent among minority populations.
