Arkansas Minority Health Commission is searching for a Communications Director.

The position will be open from October 7, 2009 until October 21, 2009.

Preferred Qualifications
Prefer bachelor degree in Mass Communications. Must possess basic thinking and analytical abilities, as well as effective writing and verbal communication skills. Must possess the ability to visualize and put into practice innovative strategies for building and promoting the brand of the Commission. Must possess all the crucial qualities necessary to operate in a fast pace environment, think on your feet and quickly absorb and understand any issues the Commission might face on a day to day basis; Attention to detail and working under deadline pressures are essential characteristics for this position. Must possess understanding of public FOIA laws and requirements.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of the Commission’s communications-primarily;


•Written

•Electronic and online-including but not limited to:

Media relations
Website formatting and content updates
Marketing communications
Direct marketing
Promoting the Commission through public service advertising
Creating marketing and communications partnerships
Public speaking
Special event coordination
Community relations

•Ensure that Commission meets FOIA standards requirements for all public meetings

•Overall commission branding


Responsible for:
•Working with/nurturing local, statewide and national media for Commission events/issues

•Developing statewide media e-blast list to include, but not limited to, all daily, weekly, monthly newspapers/magazine

•Developing countywide, specific targeted community media e-blast lists to include but not limited to all daily, weekly, monthly targeted community newspapers/magazines/list serve

•Pitching story ideas

•Preparation of Commission flyers, posters boards, brochures, banners, signs, etc.

•Writing and distributing press releases and advisories

•Managing relationships with media

•Facilitating media features and coverage

•Responding to media inquires

•Tracking and compiling Commission medic coverage (ie…scrapbook)

•Manage photo library and requests

Attention to detail and working under deadline pressures are essential characteristics for this position.
