THE SENATE SUBCOMMITTEE ON MINORITY HEALTH OF THE ARKANSAS GENERAL ASSEMBLY ANNOUNCES A LEGISLATIVE PUBLIC FORUM IN MONTICELLO

MONTICELLO, AR--The Senate Subcommittee on Minority Health of the Arkansas General Assembly will host a legislative public forum on Thursday, July 22nd. The public forum will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the VFM Building at 148 Veterans Drive.

Although the meeting is open to all residents, minority residents (African American, Hispanic, Asian and American Indian) of the area are encouraged to attend. Participants will have an opportunity to share with legislators what type of health services they would like to have in their region or county and ask questions of their elected officials.

Attendees will be provided with a synopsis of public health concerns expressed by citizens living in counties where life expectancy at birth based on death data shows that minorities die 10 years earlier than non-minorities. Speakers will also present information on recent legislation passed in 2009 that will impact public health.

The meeting will be chaired by Senator Jack Crumbly, District 16. Local representatives, senators, county judges and mayors have also been invited. Dinner will be provided to all participants courtesy of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission.
