The Residential Care Supervisor is responsible for supervising the care, guidance, and supervision of residents of state residential facilities and institutions. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Typical Functions
Supervises a large service support staff by interviewing and recommending for hire, assigning and reviewing work, training employees, and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Monitors and participates in the implementation of behavior management programs by modeling proper behavior and disciplining residents using agency resident/client disciplinary policy and psychological program as guidelines. Supervises implementation of residents' training programs by observing staff, providing training, receiving data sheets to evaluate residents' progress, and reporting results, and recommending changes in residents' schedules and program plans. Oversees the daily operation of assigned facility by ensuring that housekeeping practices are adequate, contacting maintenance for repairs, and establishing leisure schedules. Attends interdisciplinary staffings and dual diagnosis committee meetings to participate in development and evaluation of treatment plans. Coordinates with instructor to assist residents with the development of daily living skills in the unit. Plans and arranges recreational activities for dormitories, escorts residents on recreational activity trips and to campus facilities, and performs body and room searches of residents for illegal and/or dangerous objects. Prepares, reviews, and maintains reports and records, such as student behavior, incident, student individual reports, staff and building maintenance reports, daily logs, various resident charts, supply, snack, and recreation activity requests, and work orders and makes recommendations for student growth and improvement. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge of institution residential services, rules, and regulations. Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and oversee the work of subordinates. Ability to oversee and direct residents of state institutions. Ability to prepare and present oral and written information and reports including behavior, incident, staff, and building maintenance reports. Ability to advise and counsel residents. Ability to interpret residents' behavior to determine needs. Ability to use computer software programs to produce reports and written communications. Ability to respond effectively to emergency and unpredictable situations.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus two years of college coursework in special education, psychology, sociology, social work or a related field; plus two years of experience in residential patient care for individuals or a related field, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
