Summary
The Business Intelligence Specialist is responsible for providing general support in the data integration related activities throughout the organization. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Typical Functions
Performs the data modeling design process, according to customized specifications and reporting requirements.


Implements and supports innovative system applications and enhancements for existing system applications.

Develops and maintains programs using software development tools in an assortment of programming environments.


Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances decision making capabilities.


Supports users in the implementation and day-to-day use of administrative systems database applications, including user training and workflow recommendations.


Provides technical support to supplementary programming team members.


Ensures thorough documentation for assigned applications.


Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent of a bachelorís degree in information technology, computer science, computer systems engineering, or a related area; plus two years of experience in designing and / or implementing data warehouse and relational database applications.




Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management.

Examples of Job Duties:

This position performs analysis, design, and development on a variety of solutions related to business intelligence, data integration, data warehousing, master data management, data quality, and advanced analytics. This position also provides operational and on call support for statewide business intelligence, data integration, and master data management platforms including installation, configuration, tuning, and software upgrades. The business intelligence specialist interfaces with internal and external stakeholders to gather requirements and to provide strategic guidance, technical training, and support. This position requires both business and technical acumen in order to effectively leverage technology solutions to deliver business value.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with SAP analytic technologies (BusinessObjects, BW, HANA)
Experience with data integration platforms (IBM DataStage/QualityStage)
Knowledge of data quality concepts
Knowledge of state government
Experience with finance/accounting domain
Experience with SQL (TSQL preferred)
Experience with information visualization
Experience with data science / analytics
Experience with business analysis or design thinking
