ADC Construction Maintenance Cordinator

The Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) Construction / Maintenance Coordinator is responsible for planning and supervising construction projects of remodeling, renovation, and repairs. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Typical Functions
Provides general supervision of the work of subordinates by assigning work, establishing deadlines, providing instructions, training new employees, reviewing the work performed to ensure accuracy and compliance with instructions and evaluating the performance of incumbents. Receives project assignments, writes construction project plans, and inspects all existing buildings to determine structural repair or renovation needs. Estimates construction time and materials required for construction, repair, or renovation projects. Obtains and processes quote bids, prepares cost estimates, schedules or estimates project completion date, monitors project budget, and prepares cost related reports of construction projects. Draws and interprets blueprints of architectural designs and participates with administrative officials in planning major renovation and remodeling projects. Inspects work at job site prior to construction to determine progress, notes problems or deficiencies, recommends changes, writes specification, obtains prices for construction changes, and submits to upper level management. Provides technical assistance and gives instructions to architects, engineers, and construction supervisors to correct problems. Verifies delivery; inventories and inspects materials, equipment, and tools at job site to ensure conformance to specifications. Maintains a log on all completed projects, contractors, blueprints, repairs, or replacement invoices and inspection reports. Performs other duties as assigned.
Special Job Dimensions
Occasional in-state travel is required.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
Knowledge of the supervisory practices and procedures. Knowledge of building construction techniques, materials, and costs. Knowledge of blueprint schematics. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the work of subordinate skilled trade workers. Ability to conduct on-site inspections of buildings to determine quality and progress of on-going operations. Ability to draw and interpret blueprints and building specifications. Ability to maintain logs and information related to projects and costs. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent of a bachelors degree in construction management, engineering or a related field; plus three years of experience in construction project planning and implementation or a related field, including two years in a supervisory capacity. ORThe formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus eight years of experience in construction project planning and implementation or a related field, including four years in a supervisory capacity.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must possess a valid Arkansas drivers license. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Agency Specific Information
The starting salary for this position is $45,010.00. All salary offers are subject to approval by the Office of Personnel Management subject to authority provided by the state pay plan.
