Summary
The Museum Program Assistant II is responsible for assisting in museum program development, operation, and coordination activities. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency policy.
Typical Functions
Prepares written information concerning scheduled museum events and disseminates material and brochures to inform teachers of museum educational programs for students. Assists in the production of program publications, including press releases and other publicity materials, by contacting individuals to write or assist with writing of articles, and assists in the development of program aids and props. Assists with the coordination and promotion of special events of the agency and maintains contact between visitors and agency personnel for upcoming events/visits. Coordinates activities of volunteers by planning, assigning, and reviewing work, contacts and corresponds with volunteers to provide information concerning agency programs and needs, and secures their assistance for special events and fund-raising activities. Recruits new members and donors by contacting individuals through email and phone calls, provides program membership information, and maintains contact with current members. Researches agency collections and historical events for curatorial and exhibit staff and maintains research files, slides, and research and resource libraries. Schedules and conducts guided tours of historic buildings/sites and organizes and oversees activities during special events. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and/or Experience
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in cultural arts, history, education, anthropology or a related area. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.

Job Duties:
Develops and implements museum educational programming for students, teachers, and the general public.

Organizes and oversees educational activities during special events and exhibits.

Conducts research on collections, historical events, and mission related topics.

Assists in the production and dissemination of publications and publicity materials related to education.

Schedules group tours and conducts guided tours of historic buildings/sites.

Interacts and maintains contact with the general public, researchers, teachers, and students.

Maintains records, generates reports, and supplies information as needed.

May oversee the activities of volunteers to assist in educational programming.

Performs related responsibilities as required or assigned.

Minimum Requirements:
The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma; plus three years of experience in cultural arts, history, education, anthropology or a related area.

Special Requirements:
Limited to 79 hours per calendar month. Weekend work is required. Occasional work in the evening for special events, some state holidays, and occasional in-state travel is required. A pre-employment criminal background check is also required. Position is subject to drug screening.
